When I was growing up a lot of the photographs that are in an old cedar chest that I still have are all in black and white….going up until the mid 60s or so and going back as far as the early 40s or mid 40s. The photographs of my father and my parents and my grandparents, they’re all in black and white. So to me I guess it’s just carrying that that old, old tradition forward.

Podcast: Ep. 1
James Gonzales is a San Antonio photographer who’s work I’ve admired on Instagram. His black and white images capture the highs and lows of central San Antonio – from smiling faces to deep despair.
After following his feed for more than a year, I decided I had to find out more about James, and his photos. Hear my conversation in this podcast on Ouimet Presents.

I can say that the pictures James captures are truly soul touching. I feel the stories etched on faces. I have only met James once when he was taken pictures of my dog and I herding sheep in downtown San Antonio and I feel blessed to view his photos he captured with kindness and respect. Thank you and what an enjoyable interview!

I know James for a few years now. His street #blackandwhite photography captures many aspects of everyday life in San Antonio, and his talents of doing it reminds me of the city I call home while being deployed thousands of miles away. Great photographs, Mr. Gonzales.
